Greetings and Happy Holidays,
At our last Wellness Lunch, Bonnie Brost taught us about sugar. She pointed out the astonishingly high amounts of sugar in the average American diet; the dangers of consuming too much sugar – high blood sugar, an increased risk of diabetes, obesity, dental cavities, LDL (the bad cholesterol,) and a decrease of HDL (the good cholesterol). Bonnie also showed us names for hidden sugars in nutritional labels, and ways we can avoid or substitute for sugar.
2015 DECC Wellness Monthly Challenges!
They say it takes 30 days to make something a habit. Each month we will challenge you to make a healthy lifestyle change. Whether it be giving up something unhealthy or adding something healthy to your daily routine. If you can keep up with our challenge for the entire month, you will be entered into a raffle for a $25 gift certificate to the Whole Foods Co-op. If you’ve successfully completed the challenge, you may notify the Wellness Coordinator via email, phone, or a sign-up sheet located in the Bridge Club (fitness center). You have from the1st-5th of the following month to enter your name into the raffle. Winners will be drawn on the 6th of each month.
Every other Friday there will be fruit available to all employees in the DECC Business Office. Stop by to say hello and grab your paycheck along with a healthy snack!
It’s the time for New Year’s Resolutions. Is one of your goals to exercise more often? If you haven’t already, take advantage of the DECC’s Bridge Club! The Fitness Center is free to use for all DECC employees. We also offer free fitness classes all week days. Check the Wellness Calendar to see the complete schedule. We also offer a limited number of free personal training sessions, contact the Wellness Coordinator for more information.
Before working out, please note that the Bridge Club and respective locker rooms are secured with passcodes. Ask the receptionist in the Business Office for these codes. You must also sign a waiver before using the Bridge Club. We also ask that you sign in each time you work out at the desk in the Bridge Club so we can track the usage of this facility.
