2020 CHALLENGE HISTORY

APRIL

MINIMALIST CHALLENGE:
Clear the clutter from your homes as each day is assigned a specific number of items to get rid of. Complete the challenge each day and reduce the clutter in your home by 300 non-essential items!
• This challenge was voluntary during quarantine with no designated prize.

MARCH

MINDFULNESS CHALLENGE (Feb, Mar, Apr- 8 weeks):
Receive weekly mindfulness emails and complete a mini self-care challenge for 8 weeks
Kimberly Nelson (Guest Services) won a $20 gift card to Whole Foods Co-op

FEBRUARY

SMARTDOLLAR USER CHALLENGE:
Log in to your SmartDollar account (or create one) and collect 400 SmartDollar points and update your wellness survey
• Renee McAdamis (Catering) won a $50 gift card to SuperOne and Betty Carlson (Business Office) won the bonus drawing for a $10 SuperOne gift card

JANUARY

VEGAN-UARY CHALLENGE:
Commit to try to “go vegan” at least one day a week through the month of January
• Nel Stauber (Building Maintenance) won a reusable, glass meal container and a $20 gift card to Whole Foods Co-Op


2019 CHALLENGE HISTORY

DECEMBER

COLORING CHALLENGE:
Color one of the selected pictures and earn the most votes at our Annual Employee Party
• Darcy Bester (Catering) won a coloring set – two animal coloring books and a set of colored pencils in a tin

NOVEMBER

COAT DRIVE CHALLENGE:
Earn entries by donating a coat or hat/mitten set to our drop-off site during the first two weeks of November
• The following employees each won a frozen turkey (varying sizes): Ronni Murphy (Merchandise), Beverly Culver (Guest Services), Cheryl Oland (Human Resources), Annette Nemec (Accounting), Mary Stauber (Concessions), Patricia Rossetti (Concessions), Madonna Ohse (Parking), Becca Jago (Guest Services), Betty Carlson (Administration), Lloyd Geis (Security), Phil McLoughlin (Building Services), Mary Sullivan (Event Planning), Dolly Thygeson (Concessions)

OCTOBER

LAKE SUPERIOR HIKING TRAIL STEP CHALLENGE:
Earn entries by tracking your steps and completing sections of the Lake Superior Hiking Trail Map
• Bruce Porspakka (Security) won for achieving the highest step count and Jennifer Koralia (Catering) won the drawing: each won a $40 Duluth Pack gift card

SEPTEMBER

SMARTDOLLAR PROMO CHALLENGE:
Earn 300 SmartDollar points by using the new employee benefit program (watching lessons, using the budgeting app and debt snowball tool, etc.) to learn about financial wellness
• Amanda Adams (Guest Services) won a $50 SuperOne gift card

AUGUST

THE CHECKLIST CHALLENGE:
Complete summer activities on the posted checklist and share photos for extra entries
Sue Ellen Moore (Sales) won a $25 gift card to Blackwoods Restaurant

JULY

JUNK-FREE CHALLENGE:
Go a full day eating only healthy meals & snacks (no junk food), get entered up to five times if you can accomplish this task for all 5 days of the challenge
• Jeanne Rychlak (Guest Services) and Dianne Johnson (Guest Services) each won 2 reserved Flight Line seats to the Duluth Airshow

HUSKIES PHOTO CHALLENGE:
Share your “Night Out at the Stadium” photos from the Huskies game with co-workers
• Tami Melgeorge (Security) and Barb LeGarde (Ticket Office) each won a $20 gift card to the Boat Club Restaurant

JUNE

CYCLE-OPS CHALLENGE:
Pick your race to compete individually or with a partner. Track your distance for two weeks on road bikes or stationary bikes
• Wayne Gressman (Bar), winner of the Individual Race, won a bike and Chris Johnson (Marketing) & Renae Matt (Administration), winners of the Team Race, won a pack of 8 tickets to the Great Lakes Aquarium

DEPARTMENT VS DEPARTMENT PIZZA PARTY CHALLENGE:
Track your daily habits using our June Wellness PTO form. Be the department that has the highest average per participant to win a pizza party for the whole department
The Ice Maintenance Department won a Pizza Party!

MAY

DRAIN THE TANK HYDRATION CHALLENGE:
Submit your daily water intake to work as a team to “drain the tank”. It’s a 50 gallon tank and every 10 gallons drained will result in 1 winner in the drawing
• Jennifer Holmes (Administration), Madonna Ohse (Parking), and Whitney Bredow (Ticket Office) each won two tickets to the Great Lakes Aquarium

APRIL

THE CLEAN & GREEN CHALLENGE:
Complete daily environmentally-friendly challenges and earn bonus points by taking a photo/selfie while doing the listed activity
• Jake Magdzas (Ice Maintenance) and Torey Marolt (Guest Services) each won 4 tickets to the Great Lakes Aquarium

NORTH SHORE STEP CHALLENGE:
Complete a minimum of one full loop of 108,800 steps during the two-week challenge period OR reach the highest number of steps during the challenge
• Pam Erickson (Concessions) won 2 passes for the North Shore Scenic Railroad’s Music & Pizza Train for achieving the highest step count and Betty Carlson (Business Office) won 2 passes from winning the drawing

THE SOCK GIVEAWAY CHALLENGE:
Post a GIF or MEME to show us how you are feeling about the April snowstorm

Complete listed exercises and earn points with a partner to beat the team you are competing against that week. Last team standing wins!
• Mary Sullivan (Event Planning) and Sebastian Sullivan (Ice Maintenance) won a $40 gift certificate to Tavern on the Hill

FEBRUARY

BEAT THE WINTER BLUES:
Submit a photo showing how you are beating the winter blues
• Julie Roebke-Johnson (Guest Services) and Susan Hautajarvi (Catering) each won a set of touchscreen winter gloves

JANUARY

HEALTHY HABITS BINGO:
Complete as many squares as you can to complete a bingo
• Lucy Wagner (Unit 5) and Alicia Zimmer (Unit 5) each won a set of Juice Plus+ Fruit and Vegetable capsules

ARE YOU READY TO…PLANK?:
Complete a listed circuit (basic, intermediate, or challenging) on any of the qualifying days
• Whitney Bredow (Ticket Office) won a yoga mat w/carrying strap
